Manager Brett Applebee and Assistant Manager Mike Reid wanted to say a few words to summarise the Reserves successful season.
Leicester City Women Reserves season came to an early finish at the end of November seeing them crowned champions of the FA Tesco Women's Reserves Division 2. This means promotion to the highest level of the Reserves League which will see the foxes playing the likes of Doncaster, Everton, Liverpool and Leeds next season. A successful Reserves League Cup campaign saw the foxes beat two teams from the division above after superb wins at Blackburn (2-1 away) and 2-0 at home to Liverpool and finally just being edged out 4-3 away in an excellent quarter final game away to Everton. The start of the season saw the departure of two teams before a game was played with both Sheffield Wednesday and Curzon Ashton Reserves withdrawing from the league leaving a total of ten games to be played in the league structure so it was pleasing the see the team progress in the Reserves League Cup. The foxes got the season off to a flyer with a 7-0 home victory against Newcastle United. The month of October proved to be significant with the foxes winning four games to go top of the league. A disappointing 2-0 away loss to Manchester City was quickly reversed two weeks later with a 5-0 win against the same opponents. Probably the most pleasing aspect from the 2009/10 campaign was the succesful step taken by a number of players from the Under 16's progressing to the senior squad. This included Amy Longhurst, Holly Morgan, Kirsty Linnett, Lauren Handley, Leanne Morley and Mary Earps proving they are more than capable of making the step up to senior football. All of the newcomers contributed significantly to the success of the team along with those who have been in the senior squad for a longer period of time. Of the ten league games played this season there was an especially pleasing stat, at home the foxes reserves scored 17 goals without reply! The away results were a mixed bag with the only defeats coming away from home with goals scored matching goals against. Overall, an extremely positive season with a league title and good progress in the cup competition. Leicester City Reserves more than matched teams from the division above in the cup competition and have proved they thoroughly deserve their place in the division above next season. Finally, a personal thanks from Brett & Mike for all of the hard work and commitment from all of the players this year. Well done all.
