Leicester started brightly with a corner in the first five minutes which was cleared well by the Derby defence. The game became quite scrappy early on with limited chances although on 15 minutes two succesive attacks from the foxes which both resulted in shots from Chanelle Edkins and Kirtsy Linnett going wide. On 35 minutes there was a controversial incident where a ball over the top that Kirsty Linnett looked as though she would be able to latch onto ended up being handled by the Derby goalkeeper outside of her area, the assistant referee intervening to award a free kick which was cleared by the Derby defence. Minutes later Lauren Handley came close to taking the lead with a looping shot striking the bar, Amy Longhurst followed up only to see her shot saved by the goalkeeper. On the stroke of half time Derby came close to taking the lead with good wing play from the Derby number 10 resulting in a shot saved well by Mary Earps.
The second half started brightly with Jodie Taylor heading wide from a Kirsty Linnett cross and then on 6 minutes a corner from Leanne Morley came back to her and was crossed a second time finding Chanelle Edkins to score at the far post to make it 1-0. Derby came close to an equaliser on 10 minutes with a shot hit on to the bar by Mary Earps and then cleared by the foxes defence. The remainder of the second half Leicester seemed to control the posession far better than the first half and moved the ball forward confidently and on 35 minutes Cam Simpson battled to recover possesion in the Derby half and set Kirsty Linnett free on the right driving into the Derby area and confidently finishing across the Derby goalkeeper to make it 2-0. On 40 minutes Derby came close with a corner palmed up onto the bar by Mary Earps.
Another good result for the reserves and a positive response in the second half resulting in a well earned 2-0 victory.
