20/9/2009 League Derby County LFC 3 v 2 Reserves

LCWFC suffered there first defeat 3-2 away to local rivals Derby County Reserves. In a typical high energy local derby it was Derby County who seemed to have the greater energy and possibly appetite to close out the game.

It all started well for the foxes on 3 minutes the partnership of LH and JT again working well with LH sliding a good ball through for JT to take a touch and place the ball past the Derby gk to make it 1-0. On 8 minutes Derby made two succesive forward runs one of which resulted in a shot just wide from the number 9.

On 15 mins LH found herself through 1v1 but placed the ball wide of the goal. Soon after the foxes first corner from LM was hit over the bar by Demi Greenan. Derby's number 9 continued to look threatening and on 20 minutes was set free after a long pass forward and her shot on goal rebounded off the post and wide for a goalkick. Just 2 minutes later the same player didn't make any mistake and after being set clear scored to make it 1-1.

The game continued at a fast pace and as with the previous week the foxes found it difficult to find the composure to play there usual effective possession game. The next ten minutes saw the foxes have two half chances one shot on the spin from JT and a LH header both chances being claimed comfortably by the Derby gk. On 35 minutes the foxes restored their lead with JT once again finding herself 1 v 1 to place the ball confidently past the gk to make it 2-1. Five minutes later JT looked to have secured her hattrick with a fierce strike that was expertly tipped onto the crossbar and over by the Derby gk.
With two minutes gone it was Derby's turn to strike early from a corner from the right. The ball was headed goalwards struck the underside of the bar and after a short consultation between Referee and linesman the goal was judged to have crossed the line to make it 2-2. The goal gave Derby great confidence and they dominated the game in the next twenty minutes by applying constant pressure on the foxes and on 22 minutes after recovering the ball in the foxes half the Derby 10 again released the number 9 only to see her shot slide wide.

Leicester's chances were now becoming few and far between due to the constant harassing of all of the derby players although on 30 minutes the foxes forced a corner that was quickly turned over followed by a good pass from JT to LH whos shot was deflected wide.

Derby scored what proved to be the winning goal on 32 minutes after the foxes midfield was left by a skillful piece of play releasing the derby number 9 once again to finish confidently and make it 2-3.

The last 10 minutes were spent with the foxes looking to force there way forward against a team that dealt well with the pressure whilst continuing to apply there own at the other end. Overall a disappointing result where the foxes young team will need to look at picking themselves up and back to playing the confident possession football they showed in the season opener two weeks earlier.
