 Cup holders City moved into the Semi Final of the cup on a greasy surface last weekend looking to remain unbeaten in this competition for 4 years. The Foxes took an early lead after 3 minutes when skipper Rachel Stowell volleyed home from a Kirsty Robson cross delivered from the right. Only a few minutes later Natasha Meade coolly slotted past Huncote goalkeeper Aimie Cattell after Zira Handley’s through ball was perfectly placed. City then sat back and Huncote started to put up a fight when a back pass went astray making life difficult for City Keeper Leanne Hall who couldn’t stop Becky Preston coming through and finishing to pull one back. Just before the interval Huncote had another chance struck from close range that required a fantastic save from Hall. The first half finished 2-1 to City.
City came out after the interval and got to grips with the situation and up lifted the tempo with winger Katie Lowder netting twice in the 48th and 49th minute, the first of which she rounded the oncoming Cattell, and the second from a ball that dropped into the box and quick reactions from Lowder saw a quick strike into the back of the net. Chloe Jones, Stowell and Robson being involved constantly causing problems for Huncote and the flood gates opened with Destiney Toussaint heading home a Leah Rawle corner on 61 minutes. Robson made it six with possible the goal of the game on the 70th minute after good work by Stowell and then could have had the 7th in a controversial offside decision. Courtney Sweetman-Kirk was next to get on the scoresheet when she rounded the keeper Cattell after a great through ball from Lauren Impey on the 78th minute. The eight came from Maz Gauntlet who had already had one disallowed for offside but ensured this one went in with a clinical finish on 87 minutes after some nice one twos around the box.
