7/3/2010 League Manchester City LFC 3 v 4 Leicester City WFC

Player Natasha MeadeCity travelled up to Manchester on Sunday for what promised to be a tough game between 2nd and 4th place in the FAWPL- Northern Division.

City started brilliantly with some neat football exposing the Citizens back line early on in the game. The best chance fell on 10 mins to debutant Vicky Gallagher who was played through by Hannah Smith into a 1 on 1 with
the home keeper who did exceptionally well to push the shot wide. City were defending resolutely allowing only set pieces to the Citizens who delivered two consecutive corners to test the City defence who dealt with it well.

City took the lead on 15 mins when a corner to City was cleared and fell to Leah Rawle who played an early ball over the top, for Hannah Smith whose excellent left footed half volley lofted over the oncoming GK.

City kept pressing and pinning the Citizens back in their own half, managing to further their lead on 30 mins when this time when the chance fell to Gallagher her header from Leah Rawle corner gave the City keeper no chance.

Man City pulled one back just after City scored their second which came from their captain from a free kick
25 yards out. The strike was drilled hard and low into the opposite far corner of the goal.

City continued to work hard and grabbed their 3rd with a great ball from Natasha Meade down the left flank Smith ran onto ball in behind the full back, cut in to beat the CH at the byline, before crossing to the back post to Captain Rachel Stowell whose header was parried out by the Man City Goalkeeper, but Gallagher was on hand to grab her second smashing the loose ball into the back of the net.

1-3 HT

LCWFC came out the stronger side, and not long after the restart Meade received the ball 30 yards out set herself for the volley and drilled the ball into the top corner to make it 4-1 to the away side with a fantastic strike.

Man city came back into the game after the Man City captain and CH drilled her second free kick into the top corner from 30 yards out. To pull one back for home side with a truly magnificent strike. The Foxes were still defending solidly and absorbing increasing pressure from the home side who had not forced a save from GK Leanne Hall in open play. However, the points may have gone to City at the final whistle but a mention must go to the Man City Captain Lindsay Savage who scored a third free kick with another bullet to make it 4-3 to City who kept themselves in 2nd spot in the FAWPL Northern Division.
